Day 2 Cochin: Early morning transfer to airport to board flight for Cochin-Transfer to hotel is followed by city tour and boating in the backwaters of Cochin. Cochin means 'port' and so it has been since history began, trading spices, silks, ivory and Sandalwood. It is now the spice capital of India. Chinese fishing nets, Portuguese churches and Jewish quarter show of its heritage.
Day 3 Periyar: Drive to Periyar. Afternoon wildlife viewing.
Day 4 Periyar: Wildlife viewing and day at leisure. Periyar is a renowned sanctuary, home to elephants and other wildlife. Game viewing is done boat around Lake Periyar.
Day 5 Madurai: After breakfast, drive to Madurai Afternoon sightseeing tour. Madurai is the most spectacular temple town in the whole of India, dominated by the towering gopurams of the lively Meenakshi Temple.
Day 6 Madras: After breakfast transfer to airport to board flight to Madras. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. Afternoon city tour. Founded by the east India Company's trader Francis Day in 1639, Madras has the fascinating relics of the early Raj. It also boasts the world's second longest beach.
Day 7 Madras: Excursion to Maliabalipuram & Kanchipuram.
Mahabahpuram, just down the coast, has superb stone carvings and evocative shore
temples AD testimony to a grand past. On the other hand Kanchipuram boasts of
famous silks and soaring temples of great religious significance.
Day 8 Mysore: Travel by train to Mysore. Upon arrival transfer to
hotel. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Mysore. The legendary city of palaces and
perfumes - sandalwood & jasmine. Charnundi Hill, Mysore Palace will be the
highlights of todays visit.
Day 9 Bangalore: Drive to Hassan visit Halebid and Belur. Both were capitals of the Medieval Hoysala Kings who built the exquisitely carved temples in the12th & 13th centuries. Later, drive to Hassan and transfer to hotel.
Day 10 Bangalore: After breakfast, depart for Bangalore, the garden city of India. Evening free.
Day 11 A morning spent on sightseeing this beautiful city. Overnight at hotel.
Day 12 Transfer to airport to board onwards flight.
OOTY EXTENSION
Day 1 Travel by road from Bangalore to Ooty. Upon arrival transfer to hotel.
Day 2 Visit Botanical Garden and Ooty Lake.
Day 3 A leisurely day and visit to Doddabatta, the highest peak in the Nilgiris range.
Day 4 Travel back to Bangalore by road.
O - KERALA CRUISING
The Malabar Coast, with it's verdant coasts and tranquil backwaters, offer a
unique view of India's western shores and inlets. Your cruise will be aboard a
'kettuvallam' or traditional houseboat. These are simple but comfortably
furnished with a living room and bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.
You will find this to be a uniquely
relaxing experience, as the boat is powered by local oarsmen. The houseboats
have red palm roofs that open out to allow uninterrupted views of Fascinating
backwater village life along the lagoons and riverbanks that lie at the green
heart of Kerala.
Day 1-2 Depart Cochin by road for Kumarkom. On arrival, you board the rice boat for a 2 day cruise with overnight on-board.
Day 3 Return to Kumarkom and continue on to Cochin by road.
